Badang is one if not many of the famous tales among the Malay’s folklore. The tales of Badang is about a boy named “Badang” from Sungai Batu Pahat, Johor who was a son to a pair of poor farmers. He works as a coolie for the rich farmers who is known as Orang Kaya Nira Sura. As a slave, he did not gain enough resources and had to resort to fishing for extra sustenance. One day, he found his fish traps were empty and it goes on for a few days. This causes Badang to become angry and determined to capture its culprit. Badang successfully seized the culprit who is a demon. The demon begs Badang to spare him and offered Badang any wish he desired. Badang wished for greater strength but he has to swallow the demon’s vomit. Then, Badang become immensely strong and accomplish many feats in lifetime.
